Questions about flying to the Hamptons

Airports, summer booking, price and the day of travel.

The airports

East Hampton, Gabreski or Montauk: which one?

It depends on the house and the aircraft. HTO suits Bridgehampton to Amagansett and Sag Harbor; FOK in Westhampton Beach takes the largest jets and suits the western Hamptons; MTP suits turboprops and small aircraft bound for Montauk.

What are the rules at East Hampton Airport?

They have changed in recent seasons, with proposals affecting hours and the types of operations allowed. We confirm what is in force for your date and aircraft before you book.

Can a large jet land in the Hamptons?

Yes, usually at Gabreski, which has the East End’s longest runways. Whether a given jet can use East Hampton depends on runway, weight and the operator.

Booking a summer

When should I book Friday flights?

For July and August, as soon as your plans are firm, and earliest of all for the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends.

Is a time window better than an exact time?

On busy days, yes. A two- or three-hour window widens the choice of aircraft and often helps the price.

Can you book the whole summer’s weekends at once?

We can quote a series of weekends together, which helps with planning. Each flight is confirmed by the operator under its own agreement.

Do you arrange flights outside the summer?

Yes, year-round, and well beyond the East End, including one-way, round-trip and multi-city trips worldwide.

Price and payment

What does a quote include?

Flight time, positioning, airport charges, crew costs, the 7.5% federal excise tax and segment fees. Optional extras appear on their own lines.

Is there a membership or deposit?

No. Requests and quotes are free. Payment terms appear in the charter agreement when you book.

Why do one-way flights cost more than people expect?

The aircraft often has to fly back to its base empty, and that flight is part of the cost. An aircraft already heading your way can reduce it.

On the day

Where do we meet the aircraft?

At the private terminal, called the FBO, at the departure airport. Your itinerary gives the address and the operator’s advice on arrival time.

Can the dog come?

On many aircraft, with the operator’s approval. Tell us the size and breed when you request.

What if the weather turns?

The pilot in command decides whether it is safe to fly. Your advisor works with the operator on a new time or a different airport if needed.
