Aircraft for the East End

On a forty-minute flight the cabin matters less than the runway. Here is what each category carries and which East End airports it can use.

  • Glass cockpit instrument panel of a business aircraft

    Turboprop

    Pilatus PC-12, King Air 350

    All three airports, Montauk included.

  • A private jet parked on a sunny ramp beside waiting cars

    Light

    Phenom 300E, Citation CJ4, Learjet 75

    HTO and FOK, routinely.

  • A business jet taxiing toward the camera

    Midsize

    Citation XLS+

FOK, and HTO subject to runway and weight.

  • A Gulfstream jet parked under a deep blue sky

    Super-midsize

Challenger 350, Citation Longitude, Praetor 600

Usually FOK; HTO case by case.

  • A business jet descending through clouds toward the runway

    Gulfstream G450, Challenger 650, Falcon 2000LXS

    FOK.

Choosing

How to pick for a Hamptons trip

Two to six guests, light bags: a turboprop or light jet is the efficient choice, and a turboprop opens up Montauk.

Golf bags, a dog and a week of luggage: a midsize jet’s baggage hold earns its keep, landing at Gabreski or, where runway and weight allow, East Hampton.

A larger party, or a trip that carries on to Palm Beach or the Caribbean: a super-midsize or large cabin jet, usually through Gabreski.

Whatever the category, the operator confirms that the aircraft can use the airport on your date, with your passengers and bags, before you book.
